In this class I would like to teach scrap quilt theory, designing on a wall , and precise piecing. Because the block has a diagonal line, there are many setting possibilities. If you know how to sew a quarter inch seam and use a rotary cutter you may take this class.
I want this to be a no pressure fun day of learning. I have four versions of this quilt. There are many more. I would like for you to bring fabrics from your stash, learn the technique, learn about fabric selection for scrap quilts and then decide if you want to continue with a very scrappy quilt or use one of the other options.

For over ten years I have belonged to a group that trades blocks for scrap quilts. All of the quilts in my second book, Simple Strategies for Block-Swap Quilts , were made from block trades. Making quilts from trades has taught me everything I know about scrap quilts. The purpose of this class is to try to share what it has taken years for me to learn.
For class you will need a set of blocks and material for a design wall. The blocks can be from a trade, a UFO or your grandmother's attic. If you have fabric that you think you might like to use for sashing, alternate blocks or borders bring it.
Below and at right are quilts from block trades that did not get into the new book.

scrap they could be combined into a donation quilt. This way you don't go home with another unfinished project. Of course, if you love your blocks you will have a good start on an easy to piece quilt. Refer to “Choosing Fabric for Scrap Quilts” to aid you in selecting scraps for use in class.

This class covers scrap quilt theory, designing on a wall, and my method for the precise piecing of half-square triangle, quarter-square triangle and three-in-a-square triangle units. Students will use the triangle units created in class to make five different blocks suitable for use in scrap quilts. Setting possibilities for each of the blocks will be discussed. This class does not have a project but provides sample blocks and inspiration for many quilts. If you know how to sew a quarter inch seam and use a rotary cutter you may take this class.
I want this to be no pressure fun day of learning. Bring fabrics from your stash. You might start with the ones you wonder why you bought. When selecting fabrics from your stash consider fabrics with many colors and textures. The medium and dark fabrics should not have large white or tan spots. Don't bring solids, batiks, or moda marbles. Please limit tone-on-tones to those with

visual texture. Light fabrics have white, beige or pastel backgrounds. For lights a small pattern usually works best. We are playing with fabric and learning about scrap quilts. Don’t worry too much about your choices. Refer to the handout “Triangles: Endless Possibilities” for a supply list for the course.
The quilts shown below are from my book Patchwork Play Quilts. These are just a few examples of the many quilts that can be made using the blocks taught in the Triangles class. Click on a thumbnail to see a larger picture along with comments.
