Texas Two-Step: Carrousel

Lynn Roddy Brown

The set used in this quilt, which appeared in my book Simple Strategies for Scrap Quilts, is very similar to the one used in Wild West Shuffle.  The Carrousel set is uneven (five by seven blocks) while Wild West Shuffle is even (six by eight).  The uneven set seems to keep the viewer's eye moving over the surface.  Some quilters prefer the more stable even set.  It is all a matter of opinion.

This quilt is an example of what I call related fabrics (civil war) paired with a common background (beige print).   When choosing the fabrics be sure you have contrast between the background and the prints.

The red inner border frames the quilt.  I find I often use red or a variation such burgundy or pink for inner borders.
