Windmill blocks create strong, distinct patterns when they’re made using three contrasting values.  I like to choose a very dark print, usually a tone-on-tone, a medium print, and a light fabric.  When you look at the blocks in this quilt, you’ll see the values placed in different positions.  Many antique quilts use the same block but with the vaired value placement.
