Broken Dishes:  Red and Black All Over

When I was choosing fabrics for this quilt I knew I wanted a variety of reds (orange reds, gray reds, burgundy).  I also wanted visual texture (stripes, dots).  On the dark side I thought I would use grays with the blacks.  When the blocks were on he wall I found that many of the grays were too near the same value as the reds which caused the pattern to be lost.   In the end I only used very dark grays with the black.
